Para-sport in focus: CISM commits to dignified competitions and the promotion of para-sport events - a strong signal for inclusion and equal opportunities

This goal is being put into practice by the Swiss CISM delegation: in December, they signed an inclusion partnership with PluSport, the Swiss umbrella association for disabled sport, with a view to the 2025 Military World Winter Games. As an expert in the promotion of people with disabilities - from grassroots to elite sport - PluSport is the ideal partner for the inclusive, barrier-free organization of this major event. Thanks to its expertise, the organization is supporting the implementation of the project and making a decisive contribution to integration and inclusion in military sport.

The Swiss Armed Forces are underlining their commitment to disability sport with targeted incentive programs, which will also benefit para-athletes from 2021 onwards. This support represents a clear commitment to inclusion and underlines the importance of para-sport. The 2025 Military World Winter Games should spread this message worldwide, demonstrating that the military not only supports regular athletes, but also offers valuable opportunities to para-athletes.

Right from the planning stage, important steps were taken to ensure accessibility. In close collaboration with PluSport and with the participation of wheelchair athletes, the accessibility of all relevant competition venues was checked. Based on a detailed catalog of requirements, the necessary adaptations were identified and their implementation launched until the end of 2024.

This partnership, technical exchanges and joint activities are designed to ensure that the Military World Winter Games are seen as a pioneering example of accessible and inclusive events in the CISM context. The competitions should not only run smoothly for delegations with disabilities, but also serve as an inspiration for future sporting events worldwide.
