Looking back with pride – and ahead with excitement

Almost two months have passed since Switzerland hosted the 5th CISM Military World Winter Games – and yet, the memories remain vivid. We still look back with pride and joy on an unforgettable week of elite military sport, international friendship, and emotional highlights.

From the Oberalppas to the Jochpass, from Alpnach to Wädenswil: 800 athletes from 42 nations competed in eleven disciplines and showcased the true spirit of military sports – discipline, teamwork, fairness, and international camaraderie. Switzerland not only celebrated strong performances and multiple podium finishes – especially in snow sports, climbing, and parachute-ski – but also proved itself a gracious and well-organized host.

But the Winter Games brought more than just medals. They strengthened international military sports relations, promoted inclusion – through events like the Open Relay and Para competitions – and underlined the unifying power of sport. Many athletes returned home with lasting memories and new friendships. For the Swiss Armed Forces, these Games were also a clear commitment to the role of sports in international military cooperation.

But after the Games is before the next event: Switzerland is already preparing to host another major CISM championship. In autumn 2026, the world’s best military orienteers will gather here for the CISM Military World Orienteering Championship. We are already looking forward to welcoming all participating nations, sharing our landscapes and challenges – and writing the next chapter in military sports history together.
