Andermatt

Andermatt

The small but charming ski resort of Andermatt is located in the middle of the Swiss Alps and is a dream for ski tourers and freeriders as well as ideal for advanced skiers. The vacation region is one of the most snow-sure winter sports resorts and has been the venue of international competitions at regular intervals since 1969. The region around Andermatt lies directly at the crossroads of the pass routes from north to south and from west to east. Thanks to this special location, Andermatt is the starting point for eight surrounding Alpine passes, making it unique in the world. The four sources of the rivers Rhine, Reuss, Rhone and Ticino originate in the Gotthard massif and carry seven percent of the entire Alpine water in all four directions. This is why Switzerland is also known as the water castle of Euope - with Andermatt at the center of its creation.

Andermatt is also the military location for the Armed Forces Mountain Service Competence Center (Komp Zen Geb D A), which is responsible for the training and further development of the military mountain and avalanche service throughout the armed forces and ensures permanent operational readiness with mountain specialists for search and rescue missions in chambered, mountainous terrain. During the Military World Winter Games, its barracks will serve as accommodation for the athletes who will compete in Andermatt and Goms.
For the organization of the ski mountaineering competitions, the Swiss Alpine Club SAC is closely cooperating. This Swiss Alpine Club is not only committed to the responsible practice of mountain sports through appropriate training and education, but also supports the organization of appropriate competitions and is involved in the promotion of young talents to elite.
