Lucerne - our Host City
Lucerne is undoubtedly a jewel in the midst of an impressive Alpine backdrop. The region in central Switzerland is not only characterized by modern competition facilities, but also offers a well-developed public transport network, short access routes and ideal climatic conditions for winter sports disciplines. The city of Lucerne, with its welcoming atmosphere, is the perfect starting point for hosting a major sporting event. Here, sporting enthusiasm and natural beauty merge to create a unique experience. As the icing on the cake, Lucerne offers a wealth of recreational opportunities as well as the chance to explore the nearby local mountains of Rigi, Pilatus and Stanserhorn.
Lucerne already has a remarkable history in international sports. The "Lucerne Regatta" and the "Top Athletics Lucerne" are annual highlights in the international sports calendar. The city has also already presented itself as a host city for the Winter Universiade, even though this regrettably had to be cancelled due to the pandemic.
Opening and Closing Ceremony
CISM Switzerland is looking forward to putting Lucerne once again in the spotlight of international sports. The opening and closing ceremonies of the 5th Military World Winter Games will take place at the Lucerne Exhibition Hall. These ceremonies will combine both military protocols and cultural elements that harmoniously blend tradition and modernity. The highlight of the opening ceremony will be the lighting of the CISM Flame, which will burn throughout the Fifth CISM Military World Winter Games in Lucerne.
Both the opening and closing ceremonies will be open to the public. All interested parties are welcome to attend these special moments. Appropriate seating tickets will be available online early and free of charge.
Emmen
The federally owned Emmen Weapons Range is the center of ground-based air defense and is the accommodation location for athletes who will compete in the cross-country competitions at the CISM Military World Winter Games.
The start and finish of the competitions is the nearby Rapier training center, which is perfectly suited for holding the competitions thanks to its hillside location and large green area.
